Check out this delightful set of images, French illustrations from 1910 of what the year 2000 would look like. I especially love the Correspondance Cinéma - Phono - Télégraphique and the Automobiles de Guerre.
There is a history of predicting the future. And given my penchant for celebrating new information technologies on this blog, it is worthwhile to consider how wrong these predictions have been. One of my favorite places on the web is the community blog Metafilter, from which all of the following old school futuristic links are drawn:
- Conquest of Space (1954) [Youtube]
- 1999 A.D. (Shopping from Home) [Google Video]
- 1999 A.D. (Kitchen of the Future) [Google Video]
- "Will Life be Worth Living in 2000 A.D.?" (1961)
- 2063 A.D. (1963 booklet)
- "Life in 2000 A.D." (1950 Popular Mechanics article)
- "What Will Life Be Like in the Year 2008?" (1968)
- "What May Happen in the Next 100 Years" (1900 Ladies Home Journal article)
