The Appalachian Trail in Four Minutes

In 1980 I put on a pack and walked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. It looks like this:

This video is nether northwestern nor historical, but it is my blog and I wanted to share it. And these.

Thou dost protest too much. This entry is digital historical, well within the scope of your proclaimed mission and your audience's expectations. That said, I wonder how this guy made this film. Helmet cam, I guess. But how did he set up the time lapse? And are the details more compressed in some areas than others?

Wow. You did the whole trail? I've been wanting to for years, but thought I wouldn't be able to hack it. I'm tempted to try though.
How long did it take?

Bill: Clearly this is a collection of clips, edited and then sped up. So I don't think he necessarily filmed every inch of the trail, though he may have. I also noticed a preponderance of the clips are either going uphill or on the level--I'll bet the video was much more shaky on the downhills.

Katrina: It took me 5 months and 1 week, which is just about average. It is far more a mental challenge than a physical one--if you just keep walking you will find yourself physically in shape in a few weeks. But you really are living in your own head for five months, and it is not a comfortable place for everyone.

Some places snowed; the weather might be a problem for some people, but the scenery is really good; in some places are blossoms; in some are forests; and in some is mountain grassland.
